Do Tally Add-ons and TDLs Work on Cloud? Pre-Migration Checklist

For many businesses, Tally is not just Tally. It is Tally plus a custom invoice format, a GST connector, a reporting app on the owner’s phone and a few TDLs a local partner wrote years ago. So the real question before moving is simple: will my Tally add-ons and TDLs work on cloud? This pre-migration checklist helps you and your accountant find out before go-live, not after.

Key takeaways

  • With Sukam Tally on Cloud, existing Tally add-ons, connectors and TDLs keep working, and they are tested with you before go-live.
  • The most important step is making a complete list of everything that touches your Tally today, including the small, forgotten customisations.
  • Check each item for files, licence or activation needs, and any connection to outside apps or devices.

TDLs, add-ons and connectors: a quick explanation

These three words get mixed up, so here is the plain version:

  • TDL (Tally Definition Language) files customise TallyPrime itself: a special invoice layout, an extra field on vouchers, a custom report. They are files loaded into Tally.
  • Add-ons are ready-made extensions, often built with TDL, sold or supplied by Tally partners and developers.
  • Connectors and integrations link Tally with outside software, such as GST filing tools, payment-reminder apps, POS systems, CRM or mobile reporting apps.

On a cloud setup, TallyPrime runs on a server instead of your PC. So the question for each item is: can it be loaded on that server, and can it still talk to whatever it needs to talk to?

Will Tally add-ons and TDLs work on cloud with Sukam?

With Sukam Tally on Cloud, existing Tally add-ons, connectors and TDLs keep working. Add-ons are tested with you before go-live, so you are not finding problems in the middle of a GST week.

Add-ons and connectors named on Sukam’s Tally on Cloud page include Magenta BI, Talligence, Biz Analyst, ClearTax, CredFlow, QueueBuster and Suvit. If yours is not on that list, that does not mean it will not work. It means it should be on your testing list, like everything else.

On the cloud setup you can upload TDL files, GSTR templates, export templates, logos and settings files. Admins manage data and can install or reinstall Tally when needed.

The pre-migration checklist

Work through this with your accountant, and with your Tally partner if one supplied your customisations.

Step 1: List everything that touches your Tally

  • Open TallyPrime’s TDL and add-on management screen (via Help) and note every TDL or add-on that is loaded.
  • Ask your accountant which apps “pull data from Tally” or “post entries into Tally”.
  • Check the owner’s and sales team’s phones for Tally reporting apps.
  • Note any custom invoice, challan or cheque printing formats.
  • Note any barcode, POS or weighing-scale connections.
  • Note GST, e-invoice or e-way bill tools used alongside Tally.

Step 2: Collect the files and details

  • Copies of every TDL file (.tdl or .tcp) in use.
  • Your GSTR and export templates, logos and settings files.
  • Contact details of whoever supplied each add-on or TDL.
  • Any licence keys, activation details or account logins for paid add-ons.

Step 3: Check each item for three things

Check Why it matters What to ask
Licence or activation Some paid add-ons are activated per machine or per Tally serial. Ask the add-on vendor whether the licence needs to be moved or re-activated on the new system.
Outside connection Apps that sync with Tally need to reach Tally on its new server. Ask how the app connects to Tally and whether its sync settings need updating after the move.
Local hardware or files Customisations that read from a local folder or device may need changes. Ask whether it relies on a path on your PC or a device plugged into it.

Printing usually worries people most, so a note: on Sukam’s setup, you can print to any printer connected to your computer, including network printers, and exports save to your Downloads folder. Still, test your custom print formats during the trial run.

Step 4: Test before go-live

Sukam tests add-ons with you before go-live. Make the most of it by preparing a short test list:

  • Create one sales and one purchase voucher using your custom fields.
  • Print an invoice in your custom format.
  • Run each custom report.
  • Trigger a sync from each connected app and confirm the data matches.
  • Open the mobile reporting app and check the balances.
  • Export a GSTR file using your template.

Step 5: Plan the cut-over

  • Pick a quiet day, not the last days before a GST due date.
  • Take a full backup of the desktop data before the move.
  • Decide the date after which nobody enters data on the old PC.
  • Switch on scheduled backups on the cloud setup from day one.
  • Set up user logins and company access for each staff member and your CA.

Licences: Tally and add-ons are separate

Keep three costs separate in your mind:

  • Your Tally licence, from Tally Solutions or its partners. It is not included in Sukam’s price; your existing licence is supported.
  • Your add-on subscriptions or licences, from each add-on vendor.
  • Sukam’s Tally on Cloud service, for hosting, backups, security, setup and support. Sukam does not publish a price list because it depends on users and setup, but pricing is transparent with no hidden costs.

Tally and TallyPrime are trademarks of Tally Solutions. Sukam Apps hosts and supports TallyPrime; it is not Tally Solutions.

Picture this

Imagine an FMCG distributor in Panipat with a custom invoice TDL, a payment-reminder app and an owner who checks outstanding on a mobile reporting app. A quick move without a list could miss the reminder app, and nobody would notice until dealers stopped getting reminders. With the checklist, all three are listed, tested in the trial run and confirmed working before the old PC is retired.

If chasing payments is a big part of why your add-ons matter, read how to track pending payments. And if your sales team needs Tally figures inside the CRM, see Tally and CRM integration.

Once you are live, switch on scheduled backups from day one. Our Tally data backup guide explains what a good routine looks like.

After go-live

  • Recheck each connected app’s sync during the first week.
  • Keep the old PC’s data, untouched, until you are confident.
  • Note any new TDL you add later on your list, so the next change is easy.

In Punjab, Chandigarh and Haryana, Sukam trains your team in person; elsewhere in India, online. Every client gets a dedicated support person. More guides are in our Tally on Cloud Guides.
